The Germany used cooking oil market was valued at USD 315.00 Million in 2024 and is projected to reach USD 570.54 Million by 2033, growing at a CAGR of 6.12% during 2025-2033. This growth is fueled by the rising demand for biodiesel production, expansion of retail and food outlets, and increasing sustainability initiatives across the country.

Growth Drivers of the German Used Cooking Oil Market

Rising Biodiesel Production in Germany

Germany makes the most biodiesel in Europe. About 3.6 million tons of biodiesel got produced during 2024 as the German Biofuels Industry Association (VDB) reported. This created an increase of 100,000 tons more than their 2023 output. Used cooking oil is an important biodiesel feedstock because it has a low cost and a lower environmental impact than virgin vegetable oils. Government GHG and renewable energy targets have since increased demand for UCO in biodiesel production. Investing in filtration and shipping infrastructure ensures a stable supply chain with biodiesel manufacturers and foodservice companies contracting to ensure a consistent source of UCO supply.

Expansion of Retail and Food Outlets

The growing share of sales through hypermarkets, food courts and convenience stores also helps. Retail sales in Germany are estimated to grow by 2.5% in 2024, and are expected to grow by 2.0% in 2025. Since all of these retail stores have direct retail sales and therefore cooking oil use, often in store-based kitchens or by food vendors, they generate large amounts of used cooking oil. Several large retailers have signed sustainability pacts and have agreements in place with certified waste collectors to properly dispose of and recycle UCO. This network of retail outlets acts as new collection points and strengthens the supply chain for biodiesel manufacturers.

Government Support and Environmental Regulations

Germany has closely followed EU renewable energy policies and has introduced tough regulation to encourage the use of waste materials such as waste cooking oil (UCO) in biodiesel production. Legislation promoting collective collection schemes, collaboration between municipalities and biodiesel producers, subsidies for renewable fuel vehicles and more stringent carbon reduction policies further encourage UCO collection and sourcing. The initiative's regulatory support meanwhile means UCO recycling is being incorporated into Germany's clean energy and circular economy agendas.
